Michael Jeffrey Jordan (New York, USA, February 17, 1963), nicknamed "Air", "His Royal Airness (Her Majesty's Air)" or "Air Jordan", is a former American basketball player retired first in 1993, then 1999 and finally in 2003. Currently owns part of the Charlotte Bobcats, the NBA franchise. He is considered by most the best player in basketball history. NBA.com may be read into this as introduction to his biography. "By acclamation, Michael Jordan is the greatest basketball player of all time" (By acclamation, Michael Jordan is the best basketball player of all time).
He won six rings with Chicago Bulls, averaging 30.1 points per game throughout his career, the highest average in the history of the league. They also won 10 titles from leading scorer, MVP of the season 5, 6 of the Finals MVP, named the best in the NBA quintet ten times, nine times in the defensive leader in stolen ball over three years and a prize for the best defender this season.
Since 1983, has appeared on the cover of the prestigious sports magazine Sports Illustrated 50 times, a record, in addition to being named "Athlete of the Year" in 1991. He was named best athlete of the twentieth century "by ESPN and second behind Babe Ruth on the Associated Press.

Jordan, son of James and Deloris Jordan, was born in Brooklyn, New York. His family moved to Wilmington, North Carolina, when he was young and his four brothers, Jordan went to the Ogden Elementary School and later at Trask Junior High School. Later he attended the Institute Emsley A. Laney, where due to its impressive athletic conditions, played basketball, baseball and football. However, it was cut from the basketball team in their second year because to his height (1.80 meters) was supposedly underdeveloped. The following summer, Jordan grew 10 centimeters and trained rigorously. In his senior years at Laney High, averaged a triple-double: 29.2 points, 11.6 rebounds and 10.1 assists, and was selected to the McDonald's All-American Team
Jordan received a scholarship to play basketball at the University of North Carolina, where he majored in geography. In its first year was coached by the legendary Dean Smith, and was named best first year player of the season (ACC Freshman of the Year), averaging 13.4 points per game with a 53.4% shooting in the field. By then, Jordan was practically a dominant player on the court but, even so, the Tar Heels were led by him, but because of James Worthy, a future member of the Hall of Fame. At the end of the 1982 NCAA Georgetown Hoyas, Jordan gave the Tar Heels to victory with a basket suspended from two points of the final few seconds to take the championship, the first success in his spotless career. In the rival team, was the pivot Patrick Ewing, a future New York Knicks player to share with, but in different bands, magical nights at Madison Square Garden. After winning the prize for best college player of the year (Naismith College Player of the Year) Award and John R. Wooden in 1984, left the university to present the Draft of the same year. Houston Rockets and Portland Trail Blazers on, they chose to Hakeem Olajuwon and Sam Bowie, respectively, gave an opportunity to incorporate into its ranks one of the best athletes in history, the Chicago Bulls take the cat to water. Jordan back in 1986 to the university to finally graduate. |
